FDR and Obama

I hope that Obama emulates FDR because our nation does need a leader to renew our hope and build public confidence in our government. We need an optimistic president to restore our country. Obama will have a big mess to clean up, much like FDR did during the Depression, but if he stays strong and optimistic, he will be able to handle all of our country's problems left behind by George Bush. Obama has new plans for America's future, much like FDR; he wants to try to improve our country's situation.

Depression of 09

When reading about what a future depression would be like, I don't think it will be as bad as most suspect it to be. The article said that the demand for high technology and designer brands will decrease because of their expensive price tags but foods and clothing, two necessities for living, would just decrease in price. It also said that people will start eating at home more than going out to restaurants and they will start their own gardens to grow fruits and vegetables for cooking and eating instead of buying food at a supermarket. Also, it said that since restaurants are so expensive, people may start going to fast food places to order their food at a cheaper price and at less work for them. I'm not too worried about the population getting fatter from solely relying on fast food because the US already has a problem with obesity, so it is nothing new. One problem that could occur because of a depression would be that people would stop paying for overly expensive health insurance, thinking that it is just a waste of money. This could turn into a problem because then when people are really sick or injured, they will not have insurance to cover them and may therefore end up paying more in the long run. Another problem will be if some hospitals close because they don't have enough money to keep operating, this will just put that much more stress on the remaining hospitals. The last problem would be that less students would attend colleges because they are so expensive so many sales would suffer because college students buy books, go out to eat, and open bank accounts. Overall, I don't think there will be a visible difference if we have a depression, besides a possible increase in suicide rates. I think that there will just be less people buying name brands, going out to eat, and leaving their children at daycare.

Paragraph about Patriotism

I think that to be a good American and Patriot, one must be willing to give up his or her civil liberties in times of war. I think that in order to call oneself a true American, one must be willing to do anything for his or her country; one must be willing to sacrifice for his or her country in times of crisis. Desperate times call for desperate measures and true Americans always obey the law, no matter how rediculous it may seem. Americans should respect their country and its wishes.

Yesterday, Archduke Franz Fernindad was assassinated by a Serbian terrorist. He was shot by 19 year old Gavrillo Princip from Serbia. Austria-Hungary is looking to seek revenge on Serbia for murdering their future leader. They will take drastic measures to get back at Serbia. One can anticipate that if this dispute isn't solved soon, it will advance into a violent war, since modern technology is advancing as it is.
One can assume that Germany will help Austria-Hungary fight Serbia since they are alliances. Russia will help to defend Serbia against the Austria-Hungary/Germany attack. If different countries keep joining each side to fight against the other, then there is no telling when this will end. Eventually, every country in the world could be fighting against eachother. This relatively small dispute could potentially evolve into a World War.

This quote is significant to me because I feel is completely true. Alexander Hamilton is right, if you don't believe in anything then you have no standards and you can't speak for yourself. If you don't believe in anything then you'll believe anything.
